In May I graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory, where I majored in the creative-analytic fields of Music Composition and Cinema Studies and minored in Mathematics. I took education courses that included practicum work and tutored math in the local public school system for three semesters. During that time I assisted in elementary and middle school math classrooms and worked as a private tutor in middle school-level math. I found that having the creative mindset fostered by my arts education and work in collaborative arts fields, was a valuable asset when working with students to develop their creative problem solving approaches, which are key to understanding and enjoying the study of mathematics.
